I have been thinking about self image lately.... mostly because when i was watching What Not to Wear (on TLC) it made me think about a lot of things. What I've noticed was that people's self image tends to affect how they precieve the world and how they act.
For example this one woman on the show, in her late 20's early 30's, always wore teenage-ish clothes. She wore things such as simple t-shirts with logos, junky clothes, and worn jeans; her hair appeared unbrushed, her roots faded and grown out. She didn't care that people made fun of her all the time, and didn't want to be around her etc. but after she recieved the make over her whole attitude changed. She strutted around and posed, her attitude and self image completely changed and it showed in how she acted. The girl completely transformed, as if literally.
On the show she's not the only one that does this, the vast majority of them do. They see themselves as "ugly" or they have negative attitudes and are insecure, but after the make-over everything changes.... I just think it's terrible that self image can really make you a different person. I wont lie, if I were more attractive, i would probably do things i wouldn't do now; I'd probably be less insecure and such. I dont know, what do you guys think about all of this?

I think I saw that episode. (well, I've seen most of those episodes) And I noticed that too. I think its just where their comfort zone is set, because despite knowing they look bad, it makes them feel better because their self-esteem may be low, and they're living up to these low standards they set for themselves. I hope I make sense.
But I agree. Self-image is so influential, and corrupts the minds of those wishing they could live up to their own personal unrealistic standards, which goes hand-in-hand with self-confidence. I've been caught up in that trap before too. Not that I can exactly say that I ever got out of it.

Wow. Good topic. If she's in her early 30's and still wearing Juniors clothing, then she needs a Toya style REALITY CHECK! ;D No but really, she's obviously insecure about something. By dressing in clothing that is no longer meant for her age group (I bet she had kids too) anymore, she's trying to use that as a "beard" to cover up the fact that maybe she isn't comfortable being who she is at the moment. You were dead on about her & others having self image issues. Thats why I always stress that everyone do something that they like and enjoy with themselves and see themselves in a loved way. Love yourself man. Because if you dont, who is?
