Lilac bushes are the favorite of many gardeners because of their compact growth habit. They are classified in the plant taxonomy as Syringa vulgaris. They are deciduous flowering shrubs. Many times lilac bushes are referred to as lilac trees because of the height these plants attain at maturity. At maturity, Wedgewood blue lilac bushes attain a height at maturity of 6 inches with a spread equal to that. They bear flowers that are lavender blue in color and they are contained in thick clusters. They bloom at late spring. Though the leaves are dark green in color, they are grown first and foremost for the fragrance of its flowers and their beauty, not its foliage. They are having one of the most unforgettable aromas of the plant world. During many Sydney building inspection building inspection experts have suggested the planting of this shrub because of its sweet smell. Lilac bushes are to be grown in full sun. They will better grow in a rich, well drained soil with a neutral pH. Caring the lilac bushes is important because they are prone to powdery mildew disease therefore it is advised that you may provide good air circulation by keeping their branches pruned. It is better that you prune it right after blooming is over. When they finish blooming cut the dead flowers off along with the branches. By doing this you could prevent the seed from forming and thereby promote more profuse flowering the next spring. These bushes are treated by many as specimens since they are very much attractive. Also, it is a good idea to plant them in rows along property borders and prune into hedges.
