This is amazing advice!! Ladies pay close attention... From TeenVogue.comBeauty crisis: Is bleaching effective in curing dark knees?
"Knees, elbows, and knuckles are high-impact areas of the body, and the skin overlying these joints often turns dark from the inflammation that goes along with that impact," says dermatologist Linda Franks, M.D. "Your body's response is to increase the skin's pigment, or melanin, and to thicken the outer layers of the skin. That's why your knees have a band of rough, darker skin."
The solution to this problem, according to dermatologist Jeanette Graf, M.D., is not to bleach. "It is much better to soften and moisturize the skin as well as use products that contain lactic acid and urea to soften the hard skin on knees," she explains.
Besides your regular moisturizer, there are a few other products that may help. "If regular moisturizers are not sufficient, look for some with supermoisturizing ingredients, like urea, and exfoliating ingredients, like alpha and beta hydroxy acids," says dermatologist Heidi Waldorf, M.D.
