Daytime Bids Adieu to Frances Reid (1914-2010)
"Days of Our Lives" and the world at large lost one of daytime's Grande Dames, Frances Reid, who played beloved grandma Horton since 1965, when the show first started, and was last seen in Salem in December of 2007. She passed away Wednesday, February 2 at the age of 95.
Reid, who also had roles on "As the World Turns," "The Edge of Night" and the 15 minute soap "Portia Faces Life", received Daytime Emmy's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. She also bragged an impressive Broadway career in the 1940s and 1950s, worked with Rock Hudson in "Seconds" and did time in primetime, with repeated stints on "Wagon Train" (as different characters!).
She was married to late actor Philip Bourneuf for 43 years and had no children - aside from her daytime family, that is!
