I was reading this when I decided to hold an open forum for this discussion since this is something that is seriously being GLORIFIED in todays pop culture.
More and more individuals are turning to plastic surgery in order to make themselves more desirable or more in-line with their own internal perfect image. This isn't always advisable as just like anything else that people can purchase people can become addicted and constantly seek more and more surgery.
In some case, having surgery can help to boost your self esteem and give you the confidence to go on and achieve great things. Plastic surgery takes on many levels including breast enhancements, facial modification or figure modification.
Each of these procedures has been performed hundreds of times to a level of near perfection. But the question still remains can some people get addicted to plastic surgery? If would certainly appear so, some people have plastic surgery because they are unhappy with the way they look, it stands to reason that these people probably suffer from low self esteem, because of this even after having plastic surgery some people will be unhappy with their image because they always assume something else needs to be corrected.
When this is the case plastic surgery is not the answer, the person needs to get some counselling so they can address their issues as oppose to attempting to correct their outward facing image through spending pounds on enhancements.
There is of course no governing body that has been put in place to stop people from abusing their bodies through this particular procedure. It was a problem that was limited to the glitz and glamour of the celebrity world but with the cost of surgery dropping all the time and the nation becoming more fixated on their outward image thanks to the UK media forcing it in our faces day in and day out it has now transcended into the realms of the general public.
It seems that this argument will rage on over the next few years and humans continue to mutate into something that the magazines say they should look like. Personally I'm not against a little plastic surgery to solve an issue as long as it is a little, if you are planning on having several procedures done then the chances are you won't end up looking like yourself and will lose some of your identity.
Maybe this type of surgery should be saved for a useful purpose like helping people who have been disfigured in an accident regain their self esteem and confidence and we should all be happy with what we have been given.
What are some Pros & Cons of Plastic Surgery?
