This is yet another case of dumb stuff people do... (Sept. 17) - If, as the saying goes, love is blind, some lovers might want to reconsider getting behind the wheel of a car. On Wednesday, Brian Shaffer proposed marriage to his girlfriend, Kristi Burchik, at a scenic overlook in Washington County, Pa. She said yes. A short time later, at 8:40 p.m., Shaffer was driving with Burchik when he leaned over for one more kiss, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Taking his eyes from Route 40 proved unwise. The next thing Shaffer knew, his Dodge pickup was careening toward a head-on collision with an oncoming car. '"He leaned over and gave me a peck," Burchik told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "The next thing I know, a car is coming toward us."' Sensing he had too little time to avoid the accident, Shaffer threw himself onto Burchik's lap to try to shield her from impact, the newspaper said. Inside the other vehicle, a horrified family -- a father, his son and stepdaughter -- watched helplessly as Shaffer's truck sped toward them. In the ensuing collision, the driver of the car, Bryan Lloyd, 35, sustained a broken arm, as well as other injuries to his hand, hip, foot and ankle. His son, Christopher, 11, suffered a concussion, and his stepdaughter, Sheyenne Bizub, 10, was cut on the hand and complained of a sore back and neck, the Post-Gazette said. Shaffer suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs. Burchik had bruises and a broken nose. No charges were immediately filed by the police. {Aol News}
