I almost didn't want to start this thread, primarily because I would like to keep the peace on the forum. However, I trust that as young ladies we all understand how to state our opinions without being vulgar. I thought that this was a very important topic for us to discuss because Jena, LA could've been any of our towns, cities, provinces, states or countries. I think that discussing this will help us all come together to acknowlegde that this is happening... like, it is really really happening; this is not an urban myth or some fake tabloid story. This is real & that this could've been any of us. Question: How would we pull together on a united front to break racial barriers in the world? RULES- No cursing at other members - No use of racist terms or stereotypes - No disrespectful terms towards anyone. - No FIGHTING WHAT SO EVER! Its a conversation... keep it at that - If someone disagrees, fine. Take it as that and let it go. OR you can peacefully state your claim, but dont attack the opposing view. *IF ANY OF THESE RULES ARE IGNORED, I WILL LOCK THIS THREAD AND ANY PERPETRATORS WILL BE BANNED FOR A WEEK!You guys I am not playing... this is serious.
In September 2006, a group of African American high school students in Jena, Louisiana, asked the school for permission to sit beneath a "whites only" shade tree. There was an unwritten rule that blacks couldn't sit beneath the tree. The school said they didn't care where students sat. The next day, students arrived at school to see three nooses (in school colors) hanging from the tree. (Please note, the tree above is not the tree, but a tree at Jena High School.)
The boys who hung the nooses were suspended from school for a few days. The school administration chalked it up as a harmless prank, but Jena's black population didn't take it so lightly. Fights and unrest started breaking out at school. The District Attorney, Reed Walters, was called in to directly address black students at the school and told them all he could "end their life with a stroke of the pen."
Black students were assaulted at white parties. A white man drew a loaded rifle on three black teens at a local convenience store. (They wrestled it from him and ran away.) Someone tried to burn down the school, and on December 4th, a fight broke out that led to six black students being charged with attempted murder. To his word, the D.A. pushed for maximum charges, which carry sentences of eighty years. Four of the six are being tried as adults (ages 17 & 18) and two are juveniles.

I think what happened is more than terrible. I knew about this before it was posted. I believe this was no school prank, but a serious hate crime against Blacks.
What do you think can be done to prevent events like this from happening again?
I don't think anything can truely be done to prevent this or anything else, that is primarily white from happening. I am no racsist, and not a bit of prejedice. I hope I don't get suspended from saying this and I am trying to keep this minimal and non-vulgar as possible, but...White people have more power than black people.
How do White people have more power over Blacks?
-White people rule and control the government.
-Down south states are very much so confederative state.
-Down south the KKK is very much still alive. KKK does as much hate crimes if not more today than they have when they first began populating themselves and making this club/cult against black people. Anyone can look up the KKK and read about the horrible unforgiving hate crimes, murders, beatings, and etc. They they have done and still to this done continue to do, on a daily basis.
There are so many nieve people who do not see things for how they are. In this case their are many nieve people, primarily white people who want to win, but when stated out loud to a nation act more nieve. This is unfair and it break what the constitution of this country is to stand for. Then this government turns around and expects us to be good US citizens and for us citizens to join their military, their navy, their services. But the government can't even give their own country and the people who live in it, their own fair justice. No this makes no sense, and not once since this has been occuring and this trial has been started. Did I ever see someone apologize. Not that an apologie would help.
But...

The United States of America wants you to be a good citizen of the USA. How can USA citizens be or become good citizens...
Are...be responsible family members, respect and obey the laws of the land,respect the rights and property of others, are loyal to their nation and proud of its accomplishments, take parts in and improve life in their communities, take an active part in their government, use natural resources wisely, are well informed on important issues, believe in equality of opportunity for all people and respect individual difference and ways of life that are different from their own.
Answer why no one follows these so good morals, rules, and values?

I HAVE TO SAY..IM VERY ANGERED AT THE FACT THAT THINGS LIKE THIS ARE HAPPENING IN OUR MODERN WORLD AND THAT THERES STILL HORRIBLE RACIST AND PREJUDICE PPL IN OUR SOCIETY TODAY..BUT I DO KNOW IT PROBABLY WONT CHANGE ANYTIME SOON..AS HARD AS THAT IS FOR ME TO SAY..BUT I DO STILL KEEP FAITH

I just personally don't believe anyone is consdering anyone but the White in this case. If it was the other way around. I'm sure no white person would have gone through this much in this little time. If they were to get consequences, the consequences would not be as severe as what these boys are getting.
After this I truly can't say I know where the world and government stands with people. I knew we were not completely all accpted yet, or that racsism was over, or that discrimination didn't play a big unfair factor in all off this.
Right now this proves that it exsists more than what I thought it did.

When things like this are going on in our society, it makes one feel very disturbed.
I myself, have never seen something like this happen firsthand from where i am from so this is generally very disturbing to hear for me. All I want to say is that I really and truely hope for the rasism and the fights to end. With due respect to both sides, I believe that both sides should learn from a box of crayons. They are all different colours and sizes. But they are always together.
