I'm just wondering what people views are on the environment, and global warming and all that jazz.
I'll voice opinions and such if/when this gets going.
Also questions about what you can do can be asked, because I know how hard it is to figure out how to help.
So discuss it, the current state of our earth and what we can do to help.

I think that this is a great topic for discussion. I myself, am starting to go green to help in protecting the earth from things that aren't biodegradable. Like for instance, we recycle all of our plastic, aluminum and paper goods. What I dont understand is why wont the government make recycling mandatory? I mean they leave it up to the discretion of the person and for the most part, some people just dont recycle because they either have never done it before and are not familiar with it or they just dont have the time to. But I think that this should be mandated by law that you MUST recycle. It just makes sense to me. So when I go to wal-mart I try to look for things with the green label on them that state that the product has been recycled and such. In my findings, going green can save you a whole of of cash as well. Recycled goods are way cheaper than newly manufactured goods.

A big reason that a lot of people don't recycle is state law. A lot of states don't recylce or hadn't until recently, and a lot of states also can only recycle certain things. In vermont not all plastic is recyclable certian numbers are and some aren't like we can't recycle number 6 or something like that.
We've always recycled, as long as I can remember, but most of my relatives in Rhode Island don't, because it's sort of a new thing there, and they have more restrictions on it.
I think that's the biggest thing that kids, teenagers, and young adults can do: Be concious about what you throw away. I see tons of people throw away cardboard and I freak out at them, it might not be as bad as plastic, but it can still be reused a ton of times.

i think that would help because most people are too lazy to put stuff in recycling bins (in public) and recycling bins are not always present. So maybe if at least they required recycling bins and trash cans in all public places. Idk, i feel the gov. never really does a lot to help out, nothing i've really heard of anyways. There's just too many issues that they haven't bothered solving.

When I went cross country with my parents I think we only saw one or two rest stops/visitor centers that had recylcing bins at them, and we went to at least 15. The most impressive was outside of Chicago, they had like this big thing of recyling things, one was plastic, one was glass, one was metal, and one was trash, or something like that.
I think that rest stops should have them mandatory, because of how much waste is there, and people, even if they don't recylce, will see the lables and go "oh I'm supposed to put plastic in there" without even realizing they're actually recycling.

That's how I discovered recycling. I was really young, like in elementary school and they had these bins for us to put certain materials in. I just always thought that thats where they were supposed to go until I got old enough to realize I WAS RECYCLING! *Silent YAY for Toya* I think that we are probably onto something as far as the national government stepping in and governing this situation. But like what Dasrebell said, state law probably goes over all of that. The NATIONAL gov can say and do whatever they'd like but until that STATE gov decides to do it its something else. I think that there needs to be some type of mandated, sort of 'forcing' for EVERY state to have to participate in this. Its just ridiculous that this hasn't been done already. It obvious that there are things that needs to be done with this issue with the environment but I guess to the gov its just not that important. Its sad. I wish that there could be something done on a national level- hell a global level- to get massive amounts of people on board with this at once.

they had like this big thing of recyling things, one was plastic, one was glass, one was metal, and one was trash, or something like that. A few of the universities around here have those. It was cool, and i was happy to actually see people trying to help out with the enviroment. I wish that there could be something done on a national level- hell a global level- to get massive amounts of people on board with this at once. I wish they could force it on everyone too. i mean wtf, it's not like they're asking us something wild, just to recycle to help out good old mother earth! I mean forget the whole "people choice" thing for 5 minutes, and put freaking recycling bins everywhere. It would majorly help out everyone in the end! But if they did force it, people would get all pissy, and be all "it's against the constitution" blah blah blah drama. So basically if anything it going to happen, it'll take years becuase it has to go through so much voting and stuff. -.- sometimes our government just really pisses me off

I'm pretty sure most states HAVE recycling available, but it's not just about that. A lot of people don't even think about it. It's more about raising awareness for it and trying to get people to realize what they're doing to the environment by throwing out all of that plastic and glass and stuff.
People don't realize their impact until it's way too late.
