Question: Do you think that it is wise for an A-list celebrity with much credibilty and pull as Beyonce, to perform let alone show up at the Grammy Awards dispite the on going strike? R&B singer Beyoncé said Thursday she will attend the Grammy Awards on Feb. 10 in the wake of the Writers Guild of America strike.
The Recording Academy, which organizes the event, issued a statement Thursday quoting Beyonce confirming her attendance at the event, scheduled for Feb. 10 in Los Angeles.
"The work of The Recording Academy is vital to the music industry, and we have every intention of being with the entire music community to celebrate the Grammy's 50th birthday in February," said music manager Mathew Knowles. "Beyonce, as well as my other artists, Solange and Trinitee 5:7, have been asked to participate and will do so. We have an incredible Beyonce performance that will be announced soon. We wish the Grammys the best."
The Writers Guild of America has said it will picket the awards ceremony and ask Screen Actors Guild members to boycott the show as well. Like Beyoncé, many music stars are also actors.
I think that Beyonce showing up for the Grammy Awards is really brave of her, but at the same time kind of stupid. She could lose out on a lot of opportunities for major motion pictures, sitcom deals and the such because of her showing her face at the Grammy's not supporting her collegues and counterparts in this industry.
